Sometimes as a potter I just want to throw a large piece and see where it takes me. This vessel is an example of me doing just that. I love working with black clay in spite of the challenges that it can present as a fairly temperamental clay and I love color and texture. What does that equal, this unique piece…
This black stoneware vessel was wheel thrown and fired to a temperature of 2171° in my home studio.
I glazed it in a rich shade of turquoise to the exterior and finished the interior in purple. I then added a variety of drips around the rim for a riot of color and texture.
Approximately 8.25” at its widest point and 6” tall.
Would make a great pop of color on a bookshelf or a unique serving dish.
